Bondi Beach

We dressed in workout clothes and set out for a full beach day. Alyssa had heard about a 6km costal walk from to Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach that was supposed to be beautiful, so we took a bus out to Coogee. Once there, we walked down the the beach where we found the path for the costal walk. It was a little cloudy out but that was ok for the time being since we were walking and not sunbathing.

As we walked, we past many little beaches and suburbs. One thing we found amusing were the ocean pools that were areas that had been blocked off with netting to create a safe, shark free environment for swimming. I guess there have been a lot of shark attacks in recent months, so it makes sense to take precaution.
We passed a graveyard located right on the coast. I have never seen anything like that. In America, the beach land would probably be worth too much to keep it as a graveyard. I thought it was nice though to have your final resting spot overlooking the beautiful ocean.
We finally arrived at Bondi beach which is substantially larger that the other beaches we had been to, which was nice because even though there were tons of people there, it didn't feel crowded.
As we approached the beach, we passed a club that had a pool right next to the ocean that filled with ocean water whenever the waves came in. I thought it was such a cool idea! It was really like lap swimming in the ocean.
Lucky for us, the sun came out as soon as we reached the sand. We hung out for a few hours, reading and swimming in the warm water.
The girls at the hostel had been adamant that we try some of "Messina's" ice cream when we got to the beach. We both got the salted carmel with white chocolate which was absolutely to die for!

We grabbed a bus back to the hostel so that we could shower and dress up a little. Alyssa really wanted to take some nice pictures in front of the opera house, so we walked down there right at sunset. From the pier, you could see "Luna Park" which is Sydney's local amusement park. I can't get over how much it reminds me of the carnival in Pinocchio.

After checking out the opera house, we went to the "Opera Bar" which is located right in front of it for a drink. There was a live band playing jazz music and although I hadn't expected much from the singer based on the way too short dress she was wearing, her voice was amazing!

After leaving the opera house, we ventured out in search of a cheap dinner. We had read that "The Orient" had a $10 bar food menu on Monday nights, so we headed down there. They had a live musician as well which we liked. He was playing American 90's music which I've been listening to a lot of during this trip so I was completely content as we ate our fish and chips.
We had decided to take the metro home instead of walk, considering it was a little bit late and we still needed to pack. We bought our ticket back to Kings Cross (the area of Sydney we were staying in) and boarded the first train. We needed to change lines in order to get back to our area, so the first line actually took us farther away from the hostel. When we got to the second line, we found out that the entire line had been closed for the night for repairs. We were so annoyed but we had no choice but to walk back to the hostel. My feet had been killing me for the past few days since we had been doing a lot of walking and I don't have proper arch support in my shoes, so I was less than thrilled. As we walked home, we stopped at a few places to check out the Christmas lighting installations the city had put up. They were really interesting and I thought very beautiful.
