San Juan del Sur

We went in search of a new breakfast place this morning and ended up at a place called "Chocolat". I ordered a croissant with egg, ham and cheese and Alyssa got pancakes with granola and fruit. Somehow they managed to screw both of those things up and serve us burnt coffee. Not a great restaurant but it had a cute ambiance.

After breakfast, we headed back to "Garden cafe" (where we should have gone to breakfast) to get a smoothie and use their wifi.
Of course, their wifi didn't work, but they did have books on Costa Rica and Panama which we perused for a while. Finally we headed back to the hostel to finish packing before the bus picked us up at 1:30 to take us to San Juan del Sur.
The bus ride was only an hour and a half, but on the way out of the city we got to see some of the beginnings of the Hipica (horse parade) which would happen later that night. The stage and parade route were set up far more extensively than the day before and you could tell it was the makings of a major party.
Once we got to San Juan del Sur, we checked into the guesthouse we were staying at called "La Terraza". This was by far our most expensive accommodations to date, but the city was apparently booked up and everything was pricy ($28 USD/night). The guest house itself was very nice. There are three rooms that share a joint kitchen, living room and patio, but only one of the rooms has been occupied since we've been staying here.
We decided to walk around the town and grab some lunch. Down by the beach, there were tons of little restaurants overlooking the water. All of them served the exact same food and were very expensive (the same or higher prices that we'd pay in the US!). We finally stopped somewhere to get some shrimp ceviche because we were starving and then decided to go to the grocery store so we could make dinner at the house in an attempt to save money. I had seen the grocery store on the way into town and Alyssa had a map, so we assumed it wouldn't be that far of a walk, but unfortunately it was quite a walk out there. When we finally arrived, they had just shut their doors because apparently they close at 5:00 on Sundays- what shitty luck! We headed back into town and luckily found a couple smaller stores that had enough food to make up some quesadillas, beans and guacamole which Alyssa was nice enough to cook for dinner while I did research on the Galápagos.
After dinner, we ventured out to try to find something to do. The city was completely dead. After walking around for quite a while, we finally stopped in a place called "Pirate Bar" to get a few drinks. Everyone was watching the Yankees vs Red Sox game (go figure in Nicaragua) so we just hung out and took in the scene. San Juan del Sur is not as eventful as we were lead to believe it would be.
