Laguna de Apoyo

Today I woke up incredibly rested. I have slept better in the past 17 days than I have in the past 6 years living in LA (shows what stress will do to your body). Unfortunately, Alyssa did not sleep well. The cats that live at the hostel apparently got into some huge fights and she said it sounded like they were being skinned alive. She hadn't slept at all the entire night. Being conscious of this, I tried my best to be accommodating to her needs, since I could see that she was exhausted. Our first order of business was to find a different hostel to stay at when we came back to Granada that wasn't the cat hell hole. We went to four different hostels which were either booked or too expensive before we stopped at "Entre Amigos". I was immediately sad we hadn't stayed here the first night. It was a really nice place with fans ( so necessary in this climate), our own bathroom, a central courtyard etc for the same price we had paid before. We booked the place and then went in search of breakfast. We didn't have much time before our shuttle to Laguna de Apoyo so we grabbed coffee, oatmeal and yogurt/granola/fruit at this euro cafe. They didn't quite hit the mark with the oatmeal (wasn't hot) or the granola (crushed peanuts and seeds) but it was edible at least. We grabbed the bus to the lake, which was only a 20 minute drive from Granada.
The lake was beautiful but very isolated. We didn't really mind a day of rest though. We checked in and headed down to the lake. We were staying at "Paradiso" which is a sister hostel to "Oasis" in Granada so our bus fare was cheaper heading from Oasis ($12 USD). We began with some kayaking around the lake (free with your stay) and then just swam around for a bit. The water was very warm but not as clear as I would have liked. We laid in the sun and split a crepe with egg, ham and cheese- surprisingly delicious! The rest of the day we spent lounging in the hammocks reading or researching things online.
It did rain during the afternoon and throughout the night, which was actually nice because it kept things cool. We had purchased our own bottle of rum and guava juice from a stand down the road so we made ourselves drinks, split an order of chicken fajitas and settled in for the night. All in all a very relaxing day!
