Rainy day

We had seen the weather reports so we knew it was bound to happen, but when we woke up it was really raining. There wasn going to be much to so in the rain so we decided it would be a good opportunity to learn how to use Xoom. Xoom is a service that allows you to transfer money to yourself at the blue market rate of 8.7 in stead of 5 and pick up your Argentinian pesos at a location in Buenos Aires. It seems so unreal that this is a legal thing, but apparently it's very commonly done. After much deliberation about how much money to pull out, we made the transfer and it was ready topics up,within the hour. We needed to walk about 12 blocks to pick up the money, so we put on our rain gear and set out.
We had worn our sandals so that our tennis shows would not be drenched which was a fine plan for me because my sandals are made out of grippy rubber but Alyssa's leather sandals became extremely slippery once they were wet. Any time the side walk was made of titles (which ironically was very often) Alyssa would have to cling onto me so that she didn't slip, and break her head open. That made the journey a little more slow going and hilarious. By the time we arrived at the Xoom office, we were drenched and Alyssa had a huge blister on her foot. There were a ton of other people there to pick up money and you had to take a number like at the DMV and wait to be called to a window. We only had to wait about 30 minutes and there were no issues getting the money so it was definitely worth it. Money in hand, we felt newly rich but were a little worried about getting robbed. It would be the perfect location to wait outside of and steal purses.
We set off back to the hostel but of course got lost and wandered about for a while. Thankfully, the iPhone always knows where we are and we were quickly back on track. We stopped at the store and picked up stuff to make grilled cheese with tomato and avocado. I really wanted tomato soup, but that is not something that they have in Argentina. After perusing the canned tomato isle for about 30 minutes, I gave up knowing anything I concocted would be disappointing. The grilled cheeses were delicious though and perfect rainy day food. We decided to stay in and watch a movie since we wanted to be rested for our polo day. We watched "City of God" on my ipad and went to bed early. I should say we tried to go to bed early because our hostel was having a party for 22 young kids that had checked into the hostel that night so it was really like being in a nightclub in our room. Around 2:00am we were still awake and couldn't take it anymore so we complained. The girl working the desk went to half-heatedly tell people to stop screaming and banging doors but of course nothing changed. I think I drifted off for an hour or two but it's really hard to say. I was pissed because I knew I was going to be exhausted the next day.
