Praia Mole

Everyone had told us that the best beach to go to was Praia Mole, so we got our beach gear together and headed there mid-morning via local bus. First, we needed to head a little bit into the city to find an ATM since there were none out in the area we were staying in and I was completely out of cash. The girl at our hostel had told us that it was an easy 20-30 minute walk from the ATM to Praia Mole, so we decided not to take the bus and to walk. What she didn't tell us was that half of the walk was straight uphill...and that it was really more like an hour, lol. No problem, we made it there and got a good look and the town and surrounding beaches on the way. Praia Mole was a beautiful beach and we decided to lay out and read for a while in the sun.

After an hour or so, we were pretty hot so we decided to go to one of the beach bars. Apparently on the weekends these bars are absolutely packed, but since we were there on a weekday it was pretty quiet.
We ordered a Brailian beer (not Budweizer like it says on the bottle chiller) and sat watching the surfers.
We were planning to check out another bar after finishing our beer but the guys who were sitting behind us sent over some caipirinhas. Their names were Martinho and Thomas and they were from France. Martinho was originally from Portugal so he spoke Portugese, French, Spanish and English which was amazing. Thomas spoke French and Spanish but very little English so we would rotate between languages trying to make sure everyone understood the conversation which was pretty hilarious. A lot of what I thought I was saying in Spanish or what Thomas would think I was saying in English would be misinterpreted and Martinho would just laugh because he understood all of it.
The boys had rented a car since they were on the island for a week vacation and offered to drive us back to the hostel so that we wouldn't have to take the bus. We agreed and were excited about being in a car since it had been over 3 months since we had driven in anything but a bus. They also invited us to join them for dinner which seemed like a great plan since there were no restaurants in the area we were staying in and we would have had to take the bus into town and then a cab home since the bus stops running at 11:00pm. After showering and getting ready, they picked us up and took us to a French bistro they knew of in town. Since we didn't speak Portuguese or French (I took French for two years in school but I can say like 5 things, lol) the boys ordered for us which was a relief. The food was delicious and the boys were great company. Afterwards, we decided to go dancing at a club. The club had a live band and we had a great time dancing to Samba and drinking caipirinhas until the early morning hours. I was very happy to finally get back and get some sleep once I realized the sun would be rising in a few hours, but I can never sleep in very long after a night out so I knew the next day would be pretty painful.
