Montevideo-Brazil

We had to checkout of our hostel at 12:00pm and even though we weren't exactly sure what our plan was, we were pretty sure we were going to catch a bus to Brazil at some point during the day. I could have slept until at least noon, so it was lucky that Alyssa set her alarm so that we could make the last 15 minutes of breakfast and have time to pack up. Breakfast was the usual bread and sadly instant coffee, but it's better than nothing.
We gave our bags to the front desk and decided to walk to the bus station since they don't sell the bus tickets online. It was about an hour walk, but we didn't have anything else to do anyways. The walk gave us a chance to see some of the city. When we arrived at the bus terminal (which is inside of a giant mall), we found out that there is only a bus to Florionopolus on Sundays. We were shocked since it didn't mention anything about this online. However, they did have buses that went to everyday and from there we would be able to catch another bus to Florionopolous. We agreed since we really had no choice and purchased the ticket to. The bus didn't leave until 8:00pm, so we had some time to kill. The only thing I wanted to see in Montevideo was a fountain that people lock padlocks to. The story of the locks goes that if a lock with the initials of two people in love is locked to the fountain, they will return together to the fountain and their love will be forever locked. Needless to say, Alyssa and I did. To lock a lock to the fountain, lol.

We grabbed an early dinner at Subway which is always a funny experience. Things there are almost like America, but are still different. They often have different toppings and use different meats but still try to make it as American as possible. We think its great since its always relatively cheap and we know we'll like it if we are in a hurry. We headed back to the hostel, grabbed our bags and caught a cab to the bus terminal. The cab driver was very distraught because he'd just watched a car accident happen and he would not stop talking about the number of deaths in auto collisions all the while cutting off pedestrians and slamming on his breaks. I was thankful when we made it to the station alive. We grabbed some snacks from the grocery store in the mall and boarded the bus, prepared for the long haul ahead.
The bus was the nicest one we had been on. It was very clean and the attendant was extremely helpful. They had water and coffee for us to get at the bar whenever we wanted it and they served us a multiple course meal which made us feel silly for having already eaten dinner. I wasn't able to sleep much on the bus but it definitely wasn't the bus's fault which was a first.
